SMN forecasts another blast of winter for Cancun, Riviera Maya

Riviera Maya, Q.R. — A new cold front is heading for Mexico and is forecast to hit the Yucatan Peninsula by this weekend. Another blast of winter will hit Cancun and Riviera Maya with the arrival of Cold Front No. 11.

Areas in the elevated northern regions will continue to record below freezing temperatures, while the Yucatan Peninsula will see another dip in nighttime temps. The chance of rain for the Peninsula will also increase with the arrival of the cold air.

“The entry of humidity from the Pacific Ocean, the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea will cause rain and showers in coastal states in the south and southeast of the Mexican Republic, as well as the Yucatan Peninsula,” Mexico’s Servicio Meteorológico Nacional (SMN) says.

On Wednesday, Cold Front 11 will extend with stationary characteristics over the northeast of the national territory, causing strong gusts of wind in the north and northeast of Mexico.

On Thursday, the front will be reinforced by a new mass of cold air and will move over the northeast and east of Mexico, causing strong gusts of wind, rain and showers in the aforementioned regions in addition to a drop in temperature, the National Meteorological Service (SMN) reported.

On Friday, Cold Front 11 will extend over the southwest of the Gulf of Mexico, causing showers and heavy rains in the east and southeast of the Mexican Republic. The associated cold air mass will generate a drop in temperature over states in the north, northeast, east and center of the country.
