Tulum, Q.R. — The town of Coba has received an investment of 15 million pesos to recover one of its greatest tourist attractions. The first stage of a lagoon boardwalk rebuild has been made with new lighting.
Last week, the Coba lagoon, located in the town of Coba in the municipality of Tulum, recovered one of its greatest tourist attractions with the first stage reconstruction of the boardwalk that years ago, was demolished and left abandoned due to conflicts between ejidos and federal authorities.
Santos Hipólito Tuz, the Director of Tulum Public Works Monitoring, explained that the money from the rebuild came from two sides. He says 10.5 million pesos came from federal resources allocated to the City Council and 4.5 million pesos are part of the Right to Use Archaeological Zones (DUZA) program.
He said that the rebuild project is the first stage with the remaining necessary resources estimated available for a second phase later this year.
“The first stage of the work is already 100 percent complete. The investment amount was 15 million pesos of which 4.5 million were from the DUZA program. The boardwalk is operating and we hope to carry out a second stage this year with DUZA resources to continue with the boardwalk,” he said.
