Puerto Aventuras, Q.R. — Clearing to continue with construction of an unfinished aerodome in Puerto Aventuras has begun. The clearing of land for the construction of a terminal began last week.
The abandoned Puerto Aventuras air strip is being finished to replace the airfield in Playa del Carmen. The current municipal aerodome in central Playa del Carmen is surrounded by buildings due to city growth and no longer deemed suitable.
In January, the Director of the State Strategic Projects Agency (Ageproo), José Alberto Alonso Ovando, announced the decision to close the PDC space and finish the Puerto Aventuras airfield as a replacement.
According to Alonso Ovando, the previously abandoned Puerto Aventuras airfield is located 13 kilometers south of Playa del Carmen. It will be put into use this year.
The Puerto Aventuras airstrip was started in 2014 under then-state-governor Roberto Borge Angulo but never finished. A private company is working with the municipality to build the infrastructure required to complete the project, which was abandoned in its runway stage.

According to the Environmental Impact Statement issued by the Public Administration Real Estate Assets Institute, the new aerodome of Solidaridad will be located west of Puerto Aventuras and cover almost 100 hectares of which 7.3 corresponds to the actual requirement needed for infrastructure.

The project, which is being built on state-owned land, includes a runway, access road to the platform, access road to the runway, control tower, fire fighting rescue unit, platform, terminal, parking lot, access road and junction to the access road.
