Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — More than two dozen city ATMs have been shut down for operating without permits. A majority of the machines closed are located in central Playa del Carmen.
City inspectors began the reviews in December that ran into the New Year. Personnel from the PDC Directorate of Fiscalization and Collection of the City Council said a total of 25 machines were found operating illegally.
The agency reported that the inspections wrapped up in the first days of January with the placement of closure seals after verifying that 25 of them were operating without the corresponding permits.
The department reported that the ATMs found in violation were found mainly on Fifth Avenue in high-traffic areas frequently used by tourists.

They indicated that during the verifications, those responsible for the equipment were asked for documentation that accredited its installation and operation in accordance with current regulations, which in 25 instances, was not presented.
As a result of the operation, the companies responsible for the ATMs have until January 15 to regularize their administrative paperwork. If the established requirements are not met, municipal authorities warned that the equipment could be permanently removed from public roads.
