Cancun, Q.R. — Numerous citizen complaints of violations has gotten another Cancun shopping mall parking lot closed down. It is the second time this year the city has closed a parkade for irregularities.
Pablo Gutierrez Fernandez, the Secretary General of the Benito Juarez City Council, said through the Directorate of Fiscalization, a review was carried out on the parking barriers and payment machines of the Cancun Mall shopping center.

The review was done in response to numerous citizen complaints of operational irregularities. During the Tuesday inspection, Gutierrez Fernandez confirmed that city inspectors did find irregularities in the operation of the parking machines.
During the inspection, enforcement personnel found that the parking fee collection service does not comply with current municipal regulations and, furthermore, operates without the corresponding operating license.
In light of these violations, and in accordance with the law, the service was shut down with the aim of safeguarding the rights of citizens and preventing improper practices.
Gutiérrez Fernández reiterated that the municipal government maintains a policy of close contact with citizens, listening to and responding to their concerns, as well as monitoring compliance with the law in all establishments.
The Benito Juárez City Council reaffirms its commitment to act with firmness and transparency, ensuring that the services offered in commercial spaces comply with regulations and respect the rights of users.
In February of this year, City of Cancun inspectors closed the parking meters at the Plaza Las American shopping mall for charging excessive fees to park.

“Excessive parking fees and abuses will not be tolerated in Cancun. The municipal government’s priority is the well-being and safety of Cancun families,” Pablo Gutiérrez Fernández said at the time.
