Cancun, Q.R. — The City of Cancun has closed several metered shopping mall parking lots for infractions including excessive charging. The parkade at Plaza Las American was one closed Friday after a city inspection.
“Excessive parking fees and abuses will not be tolerated in Cancun. The municipal government’s priority is the well-being and safety of Cancun families,” stated Pablo Gutiérrez Fernández, Secretary General of the Benito Juárez City Council.
Gutiérrez Fernández led the Friday inspection operation at various private parking lots along with personnel from the Tax Office and Civil Protection. The inspectors and subsequent closures were made following numerous citizen complaints about poor service and improper charges.
“By order of the Mayor, Ana Paty Peralta, in Cancun there is zero tolerance for abuses against citizens, and companies are required to provide an adequate, safe and lawful service,” he said.

During the operation, the Ranver parking lot in Plaza Las Americas in Superblock 07, was temporarily closed. The city closed it “after detecting serious deficiencies in safety and civil protection matters including the lack of fire extinguishers, preventive signage, electrical installations in poor condition and damaged hydrants and structures without maintenance.
The city also reported the parkade was closed for “not accrediting essential documentation such as the Internal Civil Protection Program, electrical reports, insurance policy and proof of staff training.”
Additionally, the Plaza Outlet (Eli-Park) parking lot was closed due to a lack of required documentation and maintenance issues.
The site did not display a current liability insurance policy, a contract of adhesion registered with Profeco (the Federal Consumer Protection Agency) or a record of the staff providing complementary services, in addition to numerous physical omissions that pose a risk to users.
“Companies must understand one thing very clearly: in Cancun, abuses and conditions that put people at risk are not permitted. Anyone who does not comply with the law will be sanctioned,” the Secretary General stated.

The Benito Juárez City Council reiterated that these operations will continue permanently, addressing citizen complaints and ensuring that the services offered in the city are safe, fair and without abuses, because in Cancún people always come first.
