CFE overhauling state’s southern distribution network

Costa Maya, Q.R. — The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) has begun an overhaul on the general distribution networks that supplies several of the southern regions. On Tuesday, crews began to make repairs and replace old poles that have been blamed for months of continued power interruptions.

According to the CFE, personnel from the Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE) are carrying out maintenance and repairs to improve regional electrical service.

“The objective is to guarantee a continuous and quality electricity service for the inhabitants of the communities of Bacalar, Xcalak, Miguel Hidalgo, Xpichil, Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Reforma and Hu May,” the company said.

“The operation, which involves 29 electrical workers, six pickup vehicles and 11 hydraulic cranes, includes various actions such as low and medium voltage pruning as well as the removal of weeds to prevent vegetation from interfering with the electrical networks.

“In addition, infrastructure damaged by atmospheric discharges, corrosion and obsolescence will be replaced, as well as fuse circuit breakers to protect transformers.

“Another important aspect of maintenance is the recalibration of low and medium voltage networks in order to increase the capacity to conduct electrical energy and improve resistance in areas with dense vegetation,” the CFE reported.

The five-day maintenance operation will last until November 23.
