Cozumel, Q.R. — A new tender by the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) has been launched for the Cozumel submarine cable project. The bidding process for the construction of the underline power supply to connect the island to the mainland has been set in motion.

Adriana Abreu Artiñano, the federal representative and president of the Energy Commission, said the project, which is lead by Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE), involves the installation of a 115-kilovolt cable. The winning company will be required to build substations on Playa del Carmen mainland and install a stretch of underwater wiring to improve the quality and safety of the island’s electricity service.
According to Projects Mexico, the Cozumel submaine cable project involves the execution of four substations with a voltage of 115 kV, with a total capacity of 90 MVA of transformation, 28 MVAr of compensation and 22 feeders.
Two transmission lines with a voltage of 115 kV and a total length of 34.1 kms, one distribution line with a voltage of 34.5 kV a total length of 0.1 kms and one underground medium voltage network with a voltage of 13.8 kV and a total length of 19.31 kms to the island of Cozumel.

According to project information, the CFE is hoping to start construction of the Cozumel submarine line on July 21, 2025.
