Chetumal, Q.R. — Brigades of organized people power and machinery continues to help Chetumal residents get back on their feet. After a city-wide clean up, the Government of Quintana Roo began delivering basic replacement items to those affected.
The Quintana Roo Mobility Institute (Imoveqroo) arranged for 10 large trucks to tour neighborhoods to haul away damaged items such as furniture and appliances. Other agencies also toured the residential areas to help with home water extraction and cleaning.
“Yesterday, a brigade in the Proterritorio neighborhood mobilized 17 workers and seven dump trucks for garbage collection,” said the General Director of Imoveqroo, Rodrigo Alcázar Urrutia.
Governor Mara Lezama also made tours to some of the homes of Chetumal affected by floods. She spoke with many residents in Las Casitas and the Proterritorio neighborhoods.
“We will continue listening and looking for solutions with the people. The work has not stopped and direct support continues to reach those who need it most,” she said.

“Through the DIF system, we continue to support families affected by the floods in Chetumal. Work is being done on the territory in the Adolfo López Mateos neighborhood to offer them the support they need so much,” Lezama said.
“Food packages have also been delivered to the residents of the Las Casitas area. Our determination is unwavering, we are committed to meeting every request of our people,” Lezama explained.
The city of Chetumal was left underwater after torrential rains hit the southern region on the night of June 15. After the start of a city clean up, the region was hit for a second time.
The heavy rains left 120 of the 147 colonies of Chetumal flooded.
