Cancun, Q.R. — The body of a man that fell overboard during rough seas from a Cancun-based tourist catamaran has been found. On Wednesday morning, local authorities were notified of a washed up body on a Puerto Juárez beach.
The body of 23-year-old Angel “N” was found washed ashore early Wednesday morning after a failed search and rescue attempt the night before. The man, reported to have been a passenger on board the tourist catamaran, fell overboard during rough seas.

Emergency services were alerted to the incident around 9:00 p.m. Tuesday after the catamaran ran aground approximately three kilometers off the coast. According to catamaran company manager José Luis Cedecero, a strong wave hit the boat, causing Ángel “N” to fall into the water.
Four people were rescued from the catamaran with one reported missing.

A search team began scouring the sea off Las Perlas for that missing person however, the man was not found. The search resumed Thursday morning at which time he was located by a local resident washed ashore in a boating area of Puerto Juárez.
The local resident called in the discovery to emergency 9-1-1 around 7:30 a.m. who sent authorities to the location behind the Integral Port Administration of Quintana Roo (Apiqroo) maritime building.

The body of Angel “N” was positively identified by his family.
According to local media, the boat was owned by Caribean Golden Catamarans.
A passenger from the catamaran, David “D”, told Riviera Maya News “I was on the golden Caribbean catamaran where the 23 year old died. They did not have any search lights. We searched for an hour without any lights. The crew stood around the edges of the catamaran.

“It was useless. They could not see more than 15 feet around the boat. They were not prepared for someone falling overboard at night. The waves were rocking the boat and they did not ask people to stay seated.”
Authorities are continuing their investigation to clarify the circumstances of the accident.
