Cancun search and rescue likely to turn search and recovery for person lost at sea

Cancun, Q.R. — A maritime search and rescue operation was started Tuesday night for a person reported lost at sea off a Cancun beach. Municipal authorities and emergency services activated the search operation following a report of a stranded vessel and the disappearance of one person.

The incident was reported to authorities around 9:00 p.m. off Playa Las Perlas near kilometer 2.5 of the Cancun Hotel Zone.

Personnel from Civil Protection, the fire department, Cancun police and Marina Las Perlas continued their search efforts in coordination with maritime support late into the night, however, the missing person was not found.

According to available information, search and rescue officials were able to locate the stranded boat, however, the man from the vessel, who reportadly went swimming, has not been found.

In an brief address, Ayuntamiento de Benito Juárez (Cancun City Hall) confirmed that the operation remains active and constant communication is being maintained between the agencies to advance the search efforts.
