Cancun, Q.R. — Two Americans wanted by Interpol Mexico have been arrested inside the Cancun International Airport. The pair were taken into custody Wednesday on charges of fraud that date back to 2021.
The pair, identified by police as Americans Paul “N” and Christy Lin “N”, were wanted for ripping off a hotel for more than $116,000 USD. They were arrested by members of the National Guard on outstanding warrants and transferred to police facilities in Cancun.

Elements of the Investigative Police in coordination with Interpol Mexico are reported to have made the arrests. In a statement, authorities explained “the events for which the man, of American and German nationality, and the American woman were served with an arrest warrant occurred when, on August 8, 2023, the legal representative of a hotel chain filed a complaint against them.
“On November 21, 2021, both parties entered into a contract for the sale of membership rights through which the suspects purchased a membership to a club which gave them benefits such as preferential rates on the company’s products and services.
“Through said contract, the accused left as collateral a credit card whose holder was Paul “N”, in which the monthly membership charges would be made. Via email, the hotel chain received 13 notifications, between August 31 and November 4, 2022, from the card’s banking institution reporting the cancellation of the 13 transactions that had been made by Paul “N”.”

According to authorities, the hotel reported those 13 cancelled transaction totaled $116,587 USD which was equivalent (at the time) to more than 2.4 million pesos. Authorities say the cancellations were made fraudulently by not recognizing the charges made to his card.
“As for Christy Lin “N” who also signed the contract as a membership user, she shared messages on a Facebook page describing how they committed the fraud against the hotel,” police reported.
A judge issued an arrest warrant against both Paul “N” and Christy Lin “N” for the crime of fraud, which was executed at the Cancun International Airport when they arrived on an international flight.

Following their arrest, Paul “N” and Christy Lin “N” were placed at the disposal of authorities. Their legal situation will be resolved within the constitutional term provided. The State Attorney General (FGE) says they have informed the American Embassy of the arrest of the Americans in compliance with an arrest warrant.
