2025 Progress: SSC reports on guns and narcotics removed from Riviera Maya streets

Riviera Maya, Q.R. — The Secretary of Citizen Security (SSC) says the State Police have made great progress against crime. During 2025, hundreds of arrests were made, dozens of firearms seized and thousands of doses of drugs removed from streets.

For the Intelligence Unit, more than 400 arrests were made and nearly 100 guns seized including a historic arrest at the end of the year.

“Firm and coordinated actions by the Quintana Roo State Police Investigation and Intelligence Unit strengthen security in Quintana Roo with 413 arrests and the seizure of 99 weapons, including a record-breaking arms seizure in Quintana Roo,” the SSC reported.

During 2025, the Quintana Roo Secretariat of Citizen Security, in coordination with authorities from all levels of government, implemented intelligence strategies and specialized operations aimed at strengthening security and the rule of law in the state.

2025: Police make hundreds of arrests, seize dozens of guns and remove thousands of doses of narcotics from streets

As a result of these actions, the Quintana Roo State Police Investigation and Intelligence Unit arrested 413 people and seized 99 firearms, 53,681 doses of various narcotics and 281 vehicles and motorcycles allegedly linked to criminal activity or legal irregularities.

Among the most significant results was the arrest of two members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), one of whom was identified as the main logistics operator in charge of distributing weapons and tactical equipment in Cancun, Puerto Morelos, Kantunilkín and Isla Mujeres.

During this operation, authorities seized a record-breaking 46 firearms along with illicit substances, magazines, silencers, tactical gear. ammunition, grenades, drones, and vehicles.

Also, authorities arrested Emilio Alejandro “N,” alias “H” and/or “Danone,” a high-priority target considered the cartel’s plaza boss in the northern part of the state.

He allegedly orchestrated the cartel’s territorial expansion under the name “Deltas: Operation Jaguar.” These actions reflect the ongoing commitment of the Quintana Roo Secretariat of Citizen Security and the State Police Directorate of Investigations and Intelligence to weaken criminal structures and prevent crime.

The Preventative Police unit, also a division of the State Police reported their 2025 statistics where they operate in Playa del Carmen, Tulum and Cozumel.

During 2025, the Secretariat of Citizen Security, through the State Preventive Police at its operational bases in Playa del Carmen, Tulum and Cozumel, carried out operational and preventive actions in inter-institutional coordination, obtaining significant results in strengthening peace, order, and security in the state.

“As a result of these efforts, 391 arrests were made in the municipality of Playa del Carmen. At the Tulum base, 542 arrests were made, and in Cozumel, 102 arrests were made for drug related crimes, disobedience and resistance by private citizens, and possession of counterfeit license plates, among others,” the SSC (Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana) detailed.

Regarding narcotics, the State Police in Playa del Carmen seized 1,562 doses of various drugs including marijuana, crystal meth, crack cocaine, cocaine, pills and methamphetamine.

In Cozumel, 1,901 doses were seized consisting of psychotropic pills, crystal meth, cocaine, marijuana and crack cocaine. In Tulum, 283 doses of marijuana were seized, along with eight packages of approximately 10 kilograms each of the same drug, in addition to crystal meth, cocaine, crack cocaine, and 2C-B.

Likewise, in Playa del Carmen, five handguns were seized. In Tulum, three handguns, one replica firearm, and in Cozumel, authorities seized five handguns, one rifle and one shotgun.

Regarding vehicles connected to criminal acitivity, in Playa del Carmen, 12 cars and 23 motorcycles were impounded. In Tulum, six cars and 26 motorcycles and in Cozumel, one car and 10 motorcycles.

“These vehicles were linked to suspected crimes and/or recovered after being reported stolen, allowing for their return to their rightful owners or their inclusion in the corresponding investigation files.

The Secretariat of Citizen Security will continue to increase efforts and strengthen its strategies to prevent crime, safeguard the well-being and property of citizens, and consolidate a state where legality, tranquility, and peace prevail.
