Woman who threatened to send hitmen to business charged with aggravated extortion

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A woman police have identified as Olga Lidia “N” has been charged with aggravated extortion. The woman is facing charges for extorting a local eatery out of payments on death threats.

According to the State Attorney General (FGE), “Olga Lidia “N” was charged for events that occurred on March 14 of this year when she went to a taco shop owned by the victim located on Chemuyil Avenue and Solidaridad in the Bosque neighborhood of Playa del Carmen.

There, “she approached an employee, to whom she handed a note with a telephone number written on it, indicating that the owner of the establishment should contact her within the hour, warning her that if she did not, hitmen would come to the place and take the life of whoever was there.

“In response to the threat, the victim called the indicated phone number where the person who answered demanded a monthly payment of 5,000 pesos for “right of way”, an amount that was paid from March to July. After that, the victim decided to file a complaint,” they reported.

Olga Lidia “N” was picked up on an arrest warrant while walking on Zapote Street in the Misión Villamar 1 subdivision of Playa del Carmen. She has since been charged with aggravated extortion and ordered to remain in preventative detention during her trial.
