Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — A woman accused of extorting Isla Mujeres businesses has been captured in Merida, Yucatan. The woman was picked up on an outstanding warrant after posing as a criminal group gang member and demanding thousands a week from several municipal businesses.
A judge issued an arrest warrant for Priscila Saraí “N” after one of her victims filed an official legal complaint. According to the State Attorney General of Quintana Roo, she was arrested in collaboration with the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Yucatan.
Priscila Saraí “N” was arrested “for her alleged participation in acts that could constitute the crime of extortion against a victim in this municipality,” police said.
“According to initial investigations, the suspect posed as a presumed member of a criminal group generating violence in the continental area of Isla Mujeres and extorted various businesses with payments of 6,000 and 9,000 pesos per week.
“Following the corresponding complaint by an aggrieved party, an operation was implemented by elements of the Investigative Police assigned to the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Kidnapping and Extortion Crimes, in collaboration with agents of the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Yucatan, achieving the capture of Priscila Saraí “N” in the city of Mérida.
“She was subsequently transferred to Quintana Roo.”
