Mahahual, Q.R. — Virgin Cruise Line docked for the first time at Mahahual, Costa Maya. The general director of Apiqroo and the head of Sedetur, Vagner Elbiorn Vega and Bernardo Cueto Riestra met the ship as it docked.
Cruise ship M/S Resilient Lady docked in the port of Mahahual for the first time Tuesday.
Accompanied by the head of the State Secretariat of Tourism (Sedetur) Bernardo Cueto Riestra, both sides participated in the exchange of plaques. During the event, Elbiorn Vega thanked the Virgin Cruise Line for its trust in the Mexican Caribbean as a first-class destination.
“This exchange of plates represents not only the hospitality of our state, but also the commitment to offer an unparalleled experience to all tourists who choose our coasts. Quintana Roo continues to position itself as a world-class destination thanks to the joint effort between the private sector and the state government,” said Elbiorn Vega.
The Secretary of Tourism, Bernardo Cueto, highlighted the importance of receiving cruise ships of this magnitude to boost the local economy and project Quintana Roo as a benchmark in the cruise industry.
“The arrival of the M/S Resilient Lady reaffirms the position of Mahahual and Cozumel as key ports in the cruise industry, promoting the economic development of the state,” he said.
The Resilient Lady, a Bahamian-flagged cruise ship with capacity for 2,770 passengers, is characterized by its focus on sustainable tourism and high-quality experiences, and brought with it hundreds of tourists ready to enjoy the natural and cultural wealth of Mahahual.
The presence of this cruise ship underlines the importance of the ports of Quintana Roo in international itineraries and strengthens commercial ties between the entity and the cruise industry.
The Resilient Lady will move on to the island of Cozumel Wednesday from Mahahual with a final destination of Miami, Florida. The cruise ship is scheduled to stay in Cozumel until 8:00 p.m., at the Punta Langosta terminal.
The cruise ship has a gross tonnage of 108,192 tons and a length of 277.20 meters. The arrival of this ship reaffirms Cozumel’s status as one of the most important cruise ports in the world, and highlights the key role of Quintana Roo in the international tourism and maritime sector.
