Tulum, Q.R. — Tulum City Hall workers protested Tuesday morning for a lack outstanding payments including their Christmas bonus. The group claimed the bonus was withheld by the Human Resources Department.
Workers were demanding a prompt resolution since, as the union pointed out, the legal deadline for the Christmas bonus payments of December 20 has already passed.
The unionized workers Sindicato Único de Trabajadores del Ayuntamiento de Tulum workers demonstrated outside the Municipal Palace to demand full payment of their legally mandated benefits, including the 2025 Christmas bonus, which they claim has not been fully paid.
With banners and slogans, they requested the presence of municipal authorities to obtain an immediate response. Protesters said they would stay at the site until Mayor Diego Castañón Trejo or another representative arrived to speak with them.
They say they face delays in mandatory payments every year, but this time the situation escalated due to a lack of information and the failure to honor previously agreed-upon commitments.

The Unified Union of Municipal Workers delivered a formal document to the mayor, signed by its general secretary, Virgilio Kinil Canul, detailing outstanding benefits.
The union is demanding Christmas bonus payments for 35 retired workers without pensions and for eight active workers who say they meet the requirements to receive the full bonus.
They are also demanding the delivery of 78 Christmas baskets that are still pending, as well as the birthday bonuses corresponding to workers born between July and December 2025, benefits established in the General Working Conditions.
The union points out that the city council is obligated to pay them without delay. The complaint has also been sent to Governor Mara Lezama, the Secretary of Government, State Congress and the Federal Government, so that the higher authorities would be aware of the labor dispute.
