Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A U.S. Homeland Security alert to local authorities has lead to the discovery of a human trafficking ring in the form of child pornography. During a Monday morning press conference, Raciel López Salazar, head of the Attorney General’s Office, reported on the rescue of a 16 year old teen.

According to López Salazar the girl was rescued from a home in the residential area of Playacar in central Playa del Carmen. She was part of a human trafficking ring where those inside were producing pornographic material involving her.
López Salazar said they were notified of the material by U.S. Homeland Security Investigations Attaché who found the material on the dark web. As a result of their own investigation, they tracked the address to a home in residential Playacar where the material was being produced.
Relatives of the underage victim confirmed her identity. Authorities searched the house, removing the teen and sezing electronic devices.
“The evidence found reveals that this is a case of transnational human trafficking which placed the minor in imminent danger,” López Salazar said Monday.

The home was also secured by the FGE. López Salazar said they are continuing their investigation in close coordination with international agencies to track the flow of the material and find those responsible. He did not say how many other teens, if any, could be involved.
