Cancun, Q.R. — Over the weekend, police in Cancun shut down two prostitution rings while rescuing 33 women. The separate operations took place Saturday night, the first at a bar located on 155th Street.

Inside, 16 women were removed. According to police, they were 13 Mexicans, two Venezuelans and one Argentine. At the same time a second operation was being carried out at at a bar in SM 100 from which 17 women were rescued.
Police say from the second location, 13 Mexicans, two Colombians, one Venezuelan, and one Honduran woman were removed from the establishment. In both cases, the women charged excessive amounts for drinks and offered private dances and sexual services for which a large portion of the money went to the bar owner.
Authorities said the 33 women were transferred to the FGE of Cancun “to give their statements to the Public Prosecutor’s Office. These statements will be added to the investigation files opened following the judicial proceedings.

“The participating agents proceeded to place the security seals on the searched establishments, which were placed under the protection of this autonomous agency,” the State Attorney General said in a statement.
