Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A criminal group police say are responsible for shooting up Playa del Carmen restaurants has been detained. The State Attorney General says they have dismantled a cell dedicated to drug dealing who are also linked to attacks on bars and restaurants in Playa del Carmen.

State Attorney General head, Raciel López Salazar, reported the arrests of eight men for their alleged involvement in drug dealing in the municipality of Playa del Carmen.
Initial investigations link them to a group also involved in extortion and connected in the recent shooting attacks on bars and restaurants in the city.
The eight arrests were made in separate operations. Police say in custody are Luis Ángel “N”, alias “Barbie”, Jesús “N” and Ricardo “N”.
Miguel “N” alias “Kilo”, also in custody, is the alleged leader of the criminal gang who is being investigated for ordering at least seven armed attacks against Playa del Carmen establishments.
Adán “N”, Jonathan Ángel “N”, Edgar Alexander “N” and Claudio Giovani “N” were arrested and remain under investigation as part of the group.
Elements of the Investigation Police, attached to the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office in Combating the Crime of Drug Trafficking, captured, in flagrante delicto, Luis Ángel “N”, Jesús “N” and Ricardo “N” handling substances with characteristics of possible narcotics on Alondra Avenue in the Villas del Sol subdivision.
“During a routine check, the suspects were found to be in possession of dried green herb, similar to marijuana, a crystalline solid substance with the characteristics of methamphetamine, as well as a white solid material similar to the drug known as crack,” police said.
Officers also arrested Miguel “N” on Playa Chemuyil Stree, in the Xcacel subdivision. At the time of his arrest, they seized marijuana, a crystalline substance, a 9mm handgun, a magazine, and live ammunition.

In another operation near Brazil Street in the El Petén neighborhood, Adán “N”, Jonathan Ángel “N”, Edgar Alexander “N” and Claudio Giovani “N” were arrested. They were found in possession of dried green plant material and a crystalline solid substance. Additionally, a white Nissan Sentra with license plates from the state of Guerrero was seized during this operation.

All eight are being investigation for drug dealing and shootings against Playa del Carmen businesses.
