Riviera Maya, Q.R. — In August, two more Maya Trains will be delivered says Javier May. The head of the National Fund for the Promotion of Tourism (Fontaur) says both trains are in the last phase of production and are expected to be delivered this month.
The General Director of Fonatur, Javier May Rodríguez, reported Tuesday that at the Alstom Mexico plant, the manufacturing of the next two Mayan Train trains set for completion this month are in the last phase of the metallic process related to the boxes and welding.
“The cab and wiring assembly work is also advancing, while the static tests of the first train continue in the Cancun workshop. We are getting closer to the inauguration of the Mayan Train in December,” he said at the Tuesday morning press conference with President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
He did not specify where the two completed trains will be delivered.
The Mayan Train is made up of 1,554 kilometers of track with 20 stations and 14 stops throughout 40 municipalities in the Mexican states of Chiapas, Campeche, Tabasco, Yucatán and Quintana Roo.
The circuit will be traveled by 42 trains and 219 cars. Six Maya Train hotels are currently under construction along the route of archaeological zones. The Tren Maya Hotel at Chichen Itzá will be the first of the hotels to open.
