Cancun, Q.R. — Two Investigative Police officers in Cancun have been arrested for a string of violent city-center robberies. The two municipal police officers, who were active at the time of their arrests, were taken into custody separately Wednesday.
The State Attorney General (FGE) said both men are accused of robbing citizens. Both were active police officers, however, one also worked as a city cab driver. During their separate arrests, both were subdued after resisting and assaulting the arresting officers.

On Wednesday, Adrián “N” was captured on Avenida Instituto Politécnico Nacional, near Supermanzana 503. “He worked as a municipal police officer and taxi driver. He is related to an investigation file for robbery with violence against a pedestrian whose identity is being kept confidential,” the FGE reported.
“Later, officers arrested Edie Omar “N” in Superblock 69 on 35th Street North. At the time of their arrests, both suspects assaulted members of the Investigative Police, who then subdued them.”
Local media information says both now-former Cancun police officers are being investigated for their involvement in more than two dozen muggings.
Adrián “V”, alias “Panza de Yegua” and Edy Omar “H”, alias “Camarón” are being investigated as alleged members of a cell dedicated to violent muggings in the city center.
They are accused of primarily targeting people leaving bars and nightclubs in downtown Cancun. The men allegedly followed their victims for several blocks before intercepting and robbing them of personal belongings and cash.
The continuing investigation revealed that the men used taxis to escape after the robberies. Victims who have come forward identified a Nissan Versa and a Nissan March as the escape vehicles used by the now former-cops.
Cancun authorities used city surveillance cameras and intelligence field work to identify and locate the officers. The FGE says Adrián “N” and Edie Omar “N” have been handed over to the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

“This autonomous body makes a strong appeal to the public so that, in case they recognize and have been victims of these people, they come to file the corresponding complaint with the State Attorney General’s Office,” police said in a public appeal.
