Gilberto “N” October 11, 2024.

Gilberto “N” was arrested for physically and sexually assaulting a two year old boy which lead to his death, and for the assault of his six year old brother, who was hospitalized on October 9.

Police caught up with Gilberto “N” on October 11 after a two day manhunt. He was admitted into the Cancun prison and escaped on October 19. Local authorities began an internal investigation into the escape, which lead to the immediate dismissal of José Armando “N” and Sergio Javier “N”.

On Monday, the State Attorney General (FGE) reported that both men, former Directors of the Cancun prison, have been charged in the escape. According to an FGE statement, José Armando “N” and Sergio Javier “N”, both in their capacity as directors of the Benito Juárez Cereso, have been charged.

José Armando “N” is facing charges of negligence in the performance of his duties, while Sergio Javier “N” has been charged with prisoner escape, the agency said. The FGE says a Cancun judge “has ordered both male persons to trial, allegedly related to the escape of an inmate from the Social Reintegration Center (Cereso).”

An internal investigation into the prisoner escape began the following day.

“The incident for which they were linked occurred on October 19 of this year, when an inmate of the Cereso, identified as Gilberto “N” escaped, being under the precautionary measure of preventive detention for his alleged participation in the crimes of qualified homicide, rape and qualified injuries to the detriment of two minor victims.”

Both José Armando “N” and Sergio Javier “N” have been ordered to post bail, refrain from leaving the state and sign in every 30 days. The whereabouts of Gilberto “N” since his October escape remains unknown. Local authorities continue their search.
