Cancun, Q.R. — A man wanted for the beating death and rape of a two year old Cancun boy has been captured. A manhunt for the suspect in the murder and rape of one child and attempted murder of another continued Thursday.
“Quintana Roo FGE has captured the person responsible for the death and rape of a 2-year-old minor and seriously injuring another 6-year-old minor. The now detained is identified as Gilberto “N”, who taking advantage of his family closeness to the minor, deprived him of his life and brutally attacked another 6-year-old boy, both were brothers,” they outlined in the Thursday afternoon statement.
Gilberto “N” was captured by Cancun police after both children were rushed to Cancun hospital Tuesday. The two year old was taken to hospital by his mother where he later died. The second child, his six year old brother, was removed from the home by Domestic Violence personnel and transferred to hospital where he remains under police protection.
On Thursday, the State Attorney General (FGE) announced the capture by Investigative Police of the suspect “regarding the qualified homicide against a minor and the attempted homicide of a second minor (…) the alleged perpetrator identified as Gilberto “N”.”

In an official statement, the Fiscalía General del Estado (FGE) said “the events for which he is accused occurred on October 8 of this year, when according to the first investigations by the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office, the now detained man, taking advantage of his family proximity to the victims, physically and sexually assaulted one of them, which caused the death of one of the minors, which occurred on October 9, and the other suffered various injuries.”

After the report of the death of the two year old boy, the accused fled the area, leading Cancun police on a manhunt. “After field and technological investigations, it was possible to find the whereabouts of Gilberto “N”, who was arrested in Cancun,” they said.
