Othón P. Blanco, Q.R. — Sentences for murders that took place more than a decade ago have finally been handed down. The State Attorney General (FGE) says Luis Eduardo Aban Ac will serve 25 years for the 2012 murder of a Chetumal man.
They also reported that Pablo Cruz de la Rosa has been sentenced to 25 years for the 2013 murder of a resident near the community of Ucum. Both were found guilty of aggravated homicide.
Police said in a statement that Luis Eduardo Aban Ac was sentenced to 25 years for events that occurred on October 27, 2012 during a violent altercation at a blacksmith’s shop located on José María Morelos Avenue in central Chetumal.
“The now convicted man and another man arrived at the location to collect a debt, but then left the premises, bought some beer, and sat on a bench to drink it. The male victim arrived at the location and argued with him, then exchanged blows. The victim pulled something out of his backpack to repel the attack, at which point the other two men threw a rock at his face, causing injuries that led to his death.”
Pablo Cruz de la Rosa was also found guilty of aggravated homicide in events that occurred on the afternoon of April 14, 2013 when he went on board a motorcycle to the victim’s home, who got on the vehicle to go to a sugar mill located between the communities of Ucum and Sac-Xan.

“At that location, the suspect was talking to the victim and at some point, Pablo took a revolver-type firearm from his pants pocket and shot his companion five times, killing him.”
In additional to prison sentences, both have been ordered to pay a fine and material and moral damages.
