Tulum Parque del Jaguar: Free and open access to public beaches

Tulum, Q.R. — Additional free beach access points inside the Tulum Jaguar Park have been officially inaugurated. On Wednesday, officials visited the park where they opened Playa Santa Fe, a public beach that was once free to access.

Tulum Mayor Diego Castañón Trejo was at the announcement with Governor Mara Lezama and the Federal Secretary of Tourism, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora.

“In accordance with the vision of the government of President Claudia Sheinbaum, we announce the opening of two free access points to the beaches within the Jaguar Park, in Tulum,” Secretary Rodríguez Zamora reported.

“Today we want to share the news: we are opening two access points where foreigners, Mexican nationals and Quintana Roo residents can enter the beaches every day, 365 days a year. Within Jaguar Park there are five beaches, and today they are open to you,” said Josefina Rodríguez.

On Wednesday, the group toured the Parque del Jaguar beaches of Playa Santa Fe, Playa Pescadores, Playa Maya and Playa del Mangle.

In a statement, Governor Lezama said “the traditional access, the most meaningful one, the one that the people of Tulum had requested, is open starting today, because it is a right, not a privilege, and it is free of charge.”

She said beachgoers will have two options: those who want to go to the beach will go directly there and those who wish to enter the Jaguar Park will go to the ticket office.

Playa Santa Fe is now free and open to the public

The traditional access route was improved, making it clearer, cleaner, and more convenient for everyone, she said. The entire area now features visible signage, clear wayfinding from the road to the entrances as well as security, services and rules of conduct that promote the conservation of the natural environment.

New signs will help visitors find public beach access points

Governor Lezama says 20 signs will be installed along the route: four on federal highway 307 and 16 totem-type signs.
