Tulum man demanding money to not upload private video charged with blackmail

Tulum, Q.R. — Local authorities have charged a Tulum man with blackmail after demanding money to not upload a private video. Police say Ignacio “N” began threatening his victim on January 28 for a 15,000 peso payment.

Since his arrest, state authorities have charged him with digital violence.

The events for which Ignacio “N” is being investigated occurred on January 28 of this year when he appeared at the home of the victim on Kinch Ahaw Street, in the Casa Libre Residential subdivision of Tulum, authorities reported.

“There, he demanded the amount of 15,000 pesos in exchange for not disseminating a video that would socially discredit her,” police said.

“In order to stop the threat, the victim sent the money with an employee; subsequently, on February 13 and 14, he sent messages via WhatsApp to the woman, demanding more money.

“On March 7, the now accused intercepted the victim at a commercial establishment, where he told her that the 15,000 pesos she had sent him was not enough.”

Police said Ignacio “N” increased his blackmail demand to 20,000 pesos within that same month.

According to the victim’s statement, Ignacio “N” claimed to be “well protected” by people from the “underworld”, who would kill her if she did not pay.

After an official complaint was filed, police were able to get an arrest warrant and taken Ignacio “N” into custody.
