Tulum, Q.R. — The Tulum road bypass, which has been in the works for several months, is in the executive project phase. Tulum Mayor Diego Castañón Trejo says the much needed bypass will help decentralize traffic in the town.
Castañón Trejo says they currently have two detour options and that costs, along with other aspects of the project, are currently in talks.
“We are already in talks with the governor and the federation regarding the bypass road. There has been progress on the issue of the project in that we have two options that we will make known in due course, but we are very advanced,” he said.
He explained that with the launch of the Tulum International Airport, which will move more and more people, a bypass is necessary so that there is less traffic in first section of the town of Tulum by people accessing the airport.
He also said that due to municipal growth, alternative routes are required for the all types of vehicles including heavy units.
“We have to move forward because the municipality is growing and we will try to make it grow with order and with facilities for the people,” he said.
Last week, Tulum City Council approved the 2024 Annual Operational Program (POA) which included 34 projects. One of those projects is the construction of a bypass due to the municipality’s latest infrastructure.
