Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Civil Protection agencies were out in full force Friday responding to flooded streets. The northern region of the state was hit by a three- hour-long thunderstorm that left areas waterlogged.
In Playa del Carmen, Municipal Civil Protection reported being out to drain streets and conduct patrols due to the heavy rain Friday.
“We activated Operation Storm, deploying operational personnel from Civil Protection and the Fire Department, in coordination with the Municipal Public Services Department, to respond to reports, conduct preventative patrols, and monitor vulnerable areas in light of the rains in the municipality.
“The rainfall was caused by a combination of high temperatures and the influx of tropical maritime air, which favored the formation of an area of inclement weather with rain and electrical activity over Playa del Carmen and other parts of Quintana Roo.

“Citizens are urged to take preventative measures, avoid flooded areas, and report any emergencies to 911,” PDC Civil Protection reported.
Among the most affected areas were Misión de Las Flores, La Guadalupana, Villas del Sol, Las Palmas, Luis Donaldo Colosio and Gonzalo Guerrero neighborhoods. Standing rainwater was also noted in areas of the Puerto Morelos–Playa del Carmen.
In Cancun, the weather was the same with intense rainfall due to a lengthy afternoon thunderstorm. Civil Protection Cancun were also out unclogging drains along 135, Chac Mool, Route 5, Route 4, Bonampak, Yaxchilán, Uxmal, José López Portillo, Lakín and Kabah.

The city implemented its Carousel Operation on Luis Donaldo Colosio Boulevard with preventive traffic patrols and dredging and cleaning of grates by Public Services personnel.
On Friday, Cancun Civil Protection issued a three-hour rain advisory for the city. During those three hours, between 25 and 50mms of rain fell across the northern region. On Friday night, thunderstorms returned, dumping additional rain.
