Tulum, Q.R. — Tulum firemen were kept busy Monday responding to three separate fires at approximately the same time. Fire alerts began around 5:30 a.m. in an abandoned palapa in downtown Tulum.
That fire was followed almost immediately by the report of a burning vehicle behind a bank branch and a third, at the recycling center in Sendero Verde.

All three fires were reported within the same hour and within blocks of one another.
The most serious of the fires was the palapa that was reported on fire around 5:30 a.m. at the intersection of Tulum Avenue and Escorpión Street. Civil Protection personnel arrived as first responders and confirmed that the structure was engulfed in flames.
The road was closed and the area cordoned off while municipal police secured the site to allow firemen space to work. Army personnel joined the operation, providing perimeter security.
Agents from the State Attorney General’s Office were also present at the scene and began the corresponding procedures to determine the cause of the fire. Flames were official deemed out at 6:18 a.m.

Despite the size of the blaze, no injuries were reported. The area remained under the protection of authorities while they investigated Monday.
