Chetumal, Q.R. — Thousands of workers took to state streets Wednesday in protest of a new general law. The workers were upset at the change in general law of the Institute of Social Security and Services for State Workers (ISSSTE) promoted by President Claudia Sheinbaum.

The protestors are Instituto de Seguridad y Servicios Sociales de los Trabajadores del Estado (ISSSTE) members who want to be heard by legislators. A statewide march was held in every major city across Quintana Roo with the largest concentration in Chetumal.
Thousands marched the 6.5 kilometers from the Secretariat of Education of Quintana Roo (SEQ) to the State Government Palace on Bahía de Chetumal Boulevard Wednesday where they declared an indefinite work stoppage throughout the state.
The angry group also announced protests in tourist destinations including the Cancun International Airport and the Tulum Airport to demonstrate their disagreeance with the reform.

State workers are in disagreeance with recent law changes, one of which involves retirement after 28 years of service for women and 30 years of service for men. Protestors say that has now been changed to reflect age, not the amount of years served.
The demonstration lasted more than four hours on the esplanade of the Government Palace in Chetumal. At the same time in Cancun, more than 2,000 people gathered at the Municipal Palace of Benito Juarez. A march was also held in Tulum.

The Wednesday protest involved state teachers, however, angry protestors are encouraging other ISSSTE public sector members including health, education and security to participate.
