Tamaulipas target wanted for drug dealing and extortion in Cancun captured

Cancun, Q.R. — A state target wanted for extorting Cancun businesses has been captured. Gerardo “N”, who is originally from the state of Tamaulipas, was arrested along with two others, the FGE reported Monday.

The State Attorney General (FGE), Raciel López Salazar, said their investigation lead to Gerardo “N”, alias El Gera, as the leader of a criminal group. He was a priority target of the State Crime Atlas in connection with drug dealing and extortion in the city of Cancun.

He was taken into custody last week from Bonampak Avenue. During the arrest of “El Gera” and his alleged accomplices, Bartolo “N” and Jerson Eduardo “N”, police seized marijuana, crystal meth and two vehicles.

According to the FGE, Gerardo “N” demanded payment of 2,000 pesos a week from taco vendors on Yaxchilán Avenue in addition to collecting extortion money from bars in central Cancun.

He is also under investigation for extorting residents in an invasion zone. Authorities said he invaded land in the Arco Vial neighborhood, dividing it into lots and selling it.
