Chetumal, Q.R. — A suspect wanted in the 2023 kidnapping of a Chetumal man has been captured. Suspect Víctor Alfonso “N” was located and subsequently arrested by Coahuila federal police over the weekend.

Local authorities say he has since been returned to the state of Quintana Roo to face charges of expressed kidnapping.
“After investigative work, the State Attorney General’s Office, in collaboration with the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Coahuila, located and executed an arrest warrant against Víctor Alfonso “N” for his alleged involvement in acts possibly constituting the crime of express kidnapping,” they said in a statement Monday.
The events occurred on the night of June 19, 2023, when the victim arrived at his home located on Tecnológico de Veracruz Street in Chetumal. As he was getting out of his vehicle, another car approached.
“Two men, one of them carrying a firearm, got out of the vehicle, so the victim ran for safety, but meters later he tripped and fell to the ground, where he was subdued by his pursuers while a third man, who was driving the car, advanced towards where the victim was already subdued.

“At that moment, a fourth individual arrived in another car and tried to force the victim into the first vehicle. They all left the scene to go to a building located on Tecnológico de Veracruz Street, between Nicolás Bravo and Nizuc streets, in the Proterritorio neighborhood, where they entered the victim, beat him, and tied his hands.
“After a while, they removed him from the building and took him in a different vehicle to another home where the men, who were carrying long guns, continued to physically assault him. There, they robbed him of his cell phone and other belongings, while demanding 500,000 pesos from his family for his release.
“This sum was deposited in two parts so hours later, the victim was released on Juan de Dios Peza Street, from where he traveled home on his own,” they said.
Police added that the investigations related to this incident indicates that Víctor Alfonso “N” was the person in charge of renting the property where the victim was held captive.

After the arrest warrant was served in the municipality of Matamoros, Coahuila, Víctor Alfonso “N” was transferred to Cancun where he was subsequently presented before the requesting authority in the state capital.
