Suspect in custody for recruiting Tulum teen into selling drugs in coastal area

Tulum, Q.R. — An adult male has been arrested for recruiting a teenager to sell narcotics in the coastal area of Tulum. Authorities say Óscar “N” is facing human trafficking charges for “using persons under 18 years of age in criminal activities”.

Police from the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) executed an arrest warrant against Óscar “N” and/or Cristofer “N” Saturday. He was taken into custody “for their probable participation in acts possibly constituting the crime of human trafficking in the form of using persons under 18 years of age in criminal activities.”

According to the SSPC, Óscar “N” contacted the teenager at a soccer field where he offered him a job as a waiter. “He later forced him to sell drugs in the coastal area,” they reported.

Police say Óscar “N” is a suspected member of a criminal group dedicated to recruiting, enticing and transporting minors for illicit activities related to the sale and distribution of narcotics.

Following the report of the incident, the Public Prosecutor’s Office opened an investigation and requested an arrest warrant for Óscar “N”.

Members of the Investigative Police assigned to the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Trafficking and Exploitation of Children and Adolescents, executed the warrant in coordination with officers from the SSPC.
