Suspect in custody for attempted extortion of Tulum house

Tulum, Q.R. — A man accused of trying to extort an occupant out of a Tulum house with threats of death has been charged. On Friday, police said Adán Israel “N” has been officially charged with aggravated extortion.

The accused, Adán Israel “N” is likely linked to events that occurred on April 7 of this year at a residence on 1st Street in the Andrés Manuel López Obrador of Tulum.

At the private home, the occupant reported Adán Israel “N” arriving with an accomplice and threatening him, telling him he had one hour to vacate his home.

“The suspect identified himself as a member of a violent criminal group and showed the victim a firearm he was carrying in his waistband, reiterating his threat to kill him and his family if he did not leave the residence,” police said.

The accused then left the scene and fired two shots in the direction the victim was standing before fleeing in a vehicle with another individual.

Following the report of the incident, Investigative Police executed an arrest warrant against Adán Israel “N”. At his hearing Friday, the judge ordered him to stand trial and imposed pretrial detention for the duration of the legal proceedings.
