Cancun, Q.R. — A suspect accused of extorting city transportation drivers at a busy shopping mall has been official charged. The Quintana Roo Attorney General’s Office said Aníbal “N” was arrested on June 22, following the execution of an arrest warrant.
The accused is being investigated for his alleged involvement in events that occurred in 2025, when, in collusion with two other individuals, he allegedly extorted money from public transportation operators in the vicinity of a shopping center located on Tulum Avenue, they reported.
“These payments were demanded from the drivers in exchange for allowing them to work and pick up passengers, primarily to provide them with protection from the criminal group to which they allegedly belong, a group responsible for violence in the state,” police said.
According to authorities, “the judge issued a formal indictment against Aníbal “N” for the crime of extortion and ordered him held in pretrial detention for the duration of the legal proceedings.”
