Stolen security vehicle seized by police operating illegally in state

Chetumal, Q.R. — A stolen company security vehicle that was located by Quintana Roo police was operating illegally. Director of the Quintana Roo Citizen Security Secretariat, Julio César Gómez Torres, said that a cash-in-transit company was operating in the state without permits.

Local authorities learned of the operation after locating a stolen armored vehicle from the State of Mexico. The stolen truck was filtered in a check stop outside the city of Chetumal last week. The truck was reported transporting more than 3 million in cash.

Gómez Torres said since the seizure of the truck and arrest of its driver, they learned the company was operating in Quintana Roo without the necessary permits. He said despite holding federal permits, they lacked state authorization.

“Any company providing this type of service, especially with armed personnel, must have an official collective license from Sedena, a training course for its personnel, a weapons registry and a state permit,” he explained.

Gómez Torres said local authorization to move money around the state is mandatory, regardless of federal procedures. He says they are continuing their investigation.
