Alejandro López, director of Agricultural and Fisheries Development said this resource can generate environmental and productive benefits for the local countryside.

He said a meeting was held Thursday with the aim of promoting sustainable alternatives for the agricultural sector. López participated in the Livestock Talk for the Use of Sargassum in Field Production, held at the Rancho Tigre Grande experimental production unit.

The informative talk was coordinated together with Fernando Chico Hall, a livestock producer and partner of the Local Livestock Association of Playa del Carmen. The one-day meeting brought together producers interested in learning about options to use sargassum as a strategic resource for agricultural activities.

Alejandro López highlighted the importance of providing producers with information  that allows them to transform an environmental challenge into a development opportunity for the agricultural sector, through practices that promote sustainability and productivity.

The meeting presented various alternatives for the use of sargassum, particularly as a soil improver with the potential to strengthen agricultural production systems.

A total of 15 livestock producers from Playa del Carmen exchanged experiences and analyzed the possibilities of incorporating sargassum into their production processes.
