State head visits Imoveqroo Tulum progress in streamlining municipal transportation

Tulum, Q.R. — Officials in Tulum are streamlining municipal mobility plans to strengthen public transportation. During a Wednesday meeting, Rafael Hernández Kotasek, head of the State Mobility Institute (Imoveqroo), met with municipal officials.

He met with Manuel Enrique Solis Alcoce, the General Secretary of the Tiburones del Caribe Taxi Drivers Union. Both sides discussed issues to strengthen the operation of service, improve attention and advance in schemes of technological modernization.

Hernández Kotasek also toured the union’s facilities and the construction site of the new Tiburones del Caribe Union Intercity Bus Terminal in the La Veleta neighborhood.

During his tour, the terminal’s final design was presented, conceived as a strategic hub to streamline intercity bus operations. The new hub will also improve passenger experiences and strengthen regional connectivity.

Hernández Kotasek, who was accompanied by Tulum Imoveqroo delegate Renan Enrique Pérez, pointed out that the site could become a transfer centre in the future. It could be a centre for the organization of the flow of units and passengers in the central region of Quintana Roo.

The pair also toured the progress of the new Mobility Institute of Tulum building, infrastructure that will allow expanding the operational capacity, streamline procedures and provide more efficient municipal services.

According to Imoveqroo, 100 taxis equipped with video surveillance cameras will be put into operation (no date provided). Public taxis with cameras will reinforce the safety of both users and operators and contribute to building a more reliable transportation system, he reported.

Hernández Kotasek then met with Tulum Mayor Diego Castañón Trejo to discuss strengthening inter-institutional coordination on mobility and transportation.

The meeting addressed strategic issues related to regulating public transportation services, meeting growing demand and developing joint solutions to address the municipality’s urban growth.
