Cozumel, Q.R. — Cozumel has received over 30 million pesos in new police equipment. The new equipment includes vehicles, technology and uniforms. On Tuesday, Governor Mara Lezama presented the equipment alongside Cozumel Mayor José Luis Chacón Méndez.
“Through the Trust for the Well-being of Cruise Tourism, an investment of more than 24.5 million pesos was made for the renewal and strengthening of the vehicle fleet, which will allow for improved operational and response capacity of the security corporations,” she reported Tuesday.
The equipment delivered includes a Level III Plus armored vehicle for high-security operations and personnel transport in risky situations. It also includes nine pickup patrol vehicles for surveillance and response, eight motorcycle patrol vehicles for patrols in hard-to-reach areas and one quad bike patrol vehicle for patrolling rural, coastal or complex traffic areas.

In the mix was also two RZR all-terrain vehicles intended for special missions in irregular terrain. Governor Lezama said that all the units are equipped with communication technology and signaling and protection systems in accordance with national standards.
This, she said, guarantees greater efficiency and safety for both police officers and citizens.
Another five million pesos in uniforms and technology was also delivered to the Municipal Police force Tuesday. The items were funded through the Public Security Contributions Fund.
“These efforts are complemented by municipal resources aimed at strengthening strategic areas such as the K9 Unit, considered key in the prevention and detection of crime,” she said.

During her address, Governor Lezama said the investment was made through the Cruise Tourism Welfare Trust with the goal of ensuring that the resources generated by tourism return to the community in the form of improved well-being and security.
“Every peso invested has a clear purpose: to protect the lives of our citizens, prevent violence and build trust in a tourist destination as important as Cozumel, where security means well-being, future, and peace,” she said.
Mayor Méndez pointed out that the Tuesday delivery corresponds to 30 percent of the total equipment, since the other 70 percent was previously delivered to the corporation, this being the third time uniforms were given to the police as a result of the coordinated work between the municipality and the state government.
