Mahahual, Q.R. — Governor Mara Lezama delivered new equipment to strengthen sargassum collection efforts in Mahahual. Governor Lezama reported that a 12-ton cargo truck and a backhoe, destined exclusively for Mahahual, will expedite and make the removal of sargassum seaweed from the coastal area safer.
“This equipment is for you, to continue caring for this beautiful destination that warmly welcomes thousands of visitors,” she stated.
The equipment was acquired with resources from the Trust for the Well-being of Cruise Tourism, a mechanism that matches each dollar contributed by the cruise companies with one dollar from the state government, which is money from the people that returns for the benefit of the people, explained Mara Lezama.
She said this fund is generating direct benefits and shared prosperity for our people of Mahahual.

“And that’s what we’re working on 24/7. In this administration, we work every day, hand in hand with the Navy, and we’ve collected almost 90,000 tons of sargassum this season alone,” she said.
During the delivery of equipment, the Governor highlighted that the sargassum phenomenon continues to be one of the main environmental challenges, not only for the state, but for the entire region.
The heavy equipment was provided since the area is one that receives the most sargassum.
