Specialized Cancun K9 units practice simulated search and location training

Cancun, Q.R. — Members of the Cancun fire department and their dogs participated in search and location training. The specialized group of six practiced their search and location skills inside an abandoned building Thursday.

The six teams were lead in the exercise by canine trainer José Alfredo Pérez Javier who carried out the simulated search and rescue.

Members of the team participated with specially trained canines as part of the permanent actions to strengthen the response capacity to emergencies and safeguard the lives of citizens, he said.

The collapsed structure simulation was conducted with the members of the Cancun Fire Department’s canine unit Kai, Roy, Nopal, and Huma, as well as Cancun Civil Protection head Pablo Gutiérrez Fernández.

Also participating were K9 teams teams from Civil Protection Cancun. Marco Antonio Manatí and search dog Pantera, a member of the Civil Protection K9 Unit, reinforced her search and location skills during the exercise.

“These types of joint training exercises improve operational coordination between agencies, raise the level of preparedness of K9 teams, and consolidate a more effective response to emergency situations, benefiting the population of Cancun,” the city reported.
