Sheinbaum’s agenda full on inauguration day as first female President of Mexico

Mexico City, Mexico — On Tuesday morning, Claudia Sheinbaum became the first female President of the United Mexican States. Sheinbaum was inaugurated as President of Mexico late Tuesday morning in a formal ceremony held at the Chamber of Deputies in Mexico City.

There, she was sworn in as the first Constitutional President of the United Mexican States where Andrés Manuel López Obrador handed over the presidential sash to Ifigenia Martínez, President of the Chamber of Deputies, who in turn, placed it on Sheinbaum.

Sheinbaum was outfitted with the presidential sash after taking the constitutional oath. She gave a speech before moving off to the National Palace where she will hold a three-hour meeting with heads of state. During that meeting, the legal Cabinet will be sworn in and official photos of the new government taken.

Prior to her swearing in, Sheinbaum received several well-wishes, one of which was from her presidential candidate rival Xóchitl Gálvez who wrote “today, as you become the first female president in the history of Mexico, I sincerely wish you well, because only then will our beloved country do well… The time has come to show that women govern differently without any man commanding us.”

Later this afternoon, Sheinbaum will have dinner with the Secretaries of State, the Chancellor and other department heads after which time she will address the people from the presidential balcony in the capital’s Zócalo.

October 1 marks the first day Claudia Sheinbaum becomes the new, and first female, President of Mexico. She will hold that position until September of 2030.
