Riviera Maya, Q.R. — President Claudia Sheinbaum has announced that the federal government will inject 1.2 billion pesos for the restoration of Quintana Roo roads. Sheinbaum says the money is being spent to restore state roads damaged by Maya Train construction.
The federal government will invest just over 1.2 billion pesos in the rehabilitation of highways and rural roads in Quintana Roo affected by the construction of the Maya Train.
The federal government announcement was explained by Jesús Antonio Esteva, the head of the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT)
During the National Palace press conference, Esteva said that the projects are being carried out by the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena), which started at beginning of November. He says they are projected to be completed in May 2025.
“We are talking about 17 federal highways with a length of about 900 kilometers, 181 rural roads with a length of 400 kilometers in Yucatan, Chiapas, Campeche, Quintana Roo and Veracruz.
“The Sedena has already completed about 10 percent of the work,” he said.
The head of the SICT (Secretaría de Infraestructura Comunicaciones y Transportes) explained that 3.5 billion pesos are being invested between the three states of Quintana Roo, Campeche and Yucatan of which 35.2 percent will be spent in Quintana Roo.
