Bacalar, Q.R. — After a seven hour blockade, Limones ejidos free the highway after reaching agreements with Sedena. Farmers from the town of Limones cleared the road after reaching payment agreements with representatives of the National Defense Secretariat (Sedena) Friday.
The El Cafetal ejidos of Limones began the blockade at 6:00 a.m., demanding compliance with nine agreements previously signed with Fonatur and Sedena.
The Representation and Surveillance Body of the El Cafetal ejido, together with the Advisory Council, blocked the stretch of road that connects with Chetumal due to non-compliance with these agreements.
The blockade left hundreds of vehicles stranded for nearly seven hours. Lieutenant Colonel José Luis Martínez Beltrán, representative of Sedena, finally arrived to talk with the disgruntled ejido landowners.
Some of the re-agreements made include the construction of adequate access to plots and livestock areas, an access ramp to the Sabanitas ecotourism project, the repair of all the streets in the community of Limones and the maintenance of the access road to the town of Chacchoben.
They also agreed to stop soil extraction from the ejido’s material banks and to carry out a census of the electrical appliances affected by the power outages due to Maya Train work.
