Mexico City, Mexico — Mexico has registered historic international tourist numbers in the first months of the year. Authorities report a 6.5 percent increase in visitors to the country in January and February of 2026.
“They come from various countries; the number of tourists arriving from the United States, Canada, Brazil, and Colombia is increasing. So, it’s a very good perception of our country. Mexico is in fashion,” said Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, the Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico.
In February, Mexico received 8.01 million international visitors, which was 8.5 percent more compared to January 2025, when 7.38 million arrived, adding that Mazatlán reached a record number of cruise ship during Easter.
Mexico is attractive to national and international tourists because it has the best beaches, cultural spaces, and exceptional archaeological sites.
“Most importantly, it is the people of Mexico: generous, joyful; that is to say, it is a country that, in addition to being fashionable because of what Mexico is experiencing, the great transformation it is undergoing, which is recognized worldwide, is also a source of history, tradition, and cultural grandeur. That is why it is growing,” she said during the morning presidential press conference.

In the first two months of 2026, Mexico registered 10.7 million passengers on international flights, 1.9 percent higher than the previous year.
According to Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, countries with the greatest increase in tourist arrivals by air are Colombia, Spain, Brazil, France, the United Kingdom, and Canada.
Regarding the number of foreign passengers on the Maya Train during January-February 2026, she noted a 41 percent increase compared to the first two months of last year.
Between March 30 and April 5, visitor arrivals rose 4.1 percent to 7.82 million, meanwhile, tourist arrivals reached 4.2 percent with 3.75 million during the same period.
During the Easter holidays, the destinations with the highest hotel occupancy rates were Taxco, Playa Miramar, Nuevo Nayarit, Mazatlán, Riviera Maya, Huatulco, Boca del Río, Cancun, Tulum, and Mexico City.

The Secretary of Tourism, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, reported that in February of this year 3.8 million international tourists arrived in Mexico, a record high in the last 20 years.
