Residents of José María Morelos continue to deal with CFE power failures

José María Morelos, Q.R. — Authorities from the José María Morelos city council continue to receive dozens of complaints regarding the intermittent electrical services. The complaints are from rural communities regarding the constant CFE electrical failures.

The Ayuntamiento of José María Morelos reported in a statement that a large section of the municipality recently went more than 24 hours without electricity. The statement says that residents are threatening a demonstration outside the CFE offices if the city does not take action.

The problem with the unstable electricity has been ongoing since February 6, reported Mayor Erik Borges Yam during a radio interview. In the weekly radio program, he said dozens of complaints from citizens of the more than 60 communities of the municipality came to light again regarding the terrible service of the Federal Commission of Electricity (CFE).

He said CFE authorities indicated that they are aware of the problem, which residents such as Esteban Serralta Uxul, Subdelegate of the Candelaria community, says is due to a lack of maintenance on the electrical conduction lines.

He says that lack of maintenance has created an “almost permanent” problem even though, he added, the CFE blames the problem on the trees shorting out the lines.

The communities most affected by the power outages have been Dziuché, La Candelaria, San Felipe, Sacalaca, Santa Gertrudis and the town of José María Morelos.
