Cancun, Q.R. — Cancun firemen were at the scene of an LP gas leak report at a city shopping mall Saturday. Firemen reported no injuries after two crews were deployed to locate the source of the gas leak smell.

According to the Cancun fire department, the cause of the incident was due to alarms triggered by an electrical short circuit in an air conditioning unit. That short circuit created smoke and a burning smell that was reported to be the smell of gas.
On scene, firemen found the problem and ventilated the store.
“Cancún Fire Department personnel responded to a report of a suspected gas odor inside a store at Plaza Las Américas,” they reported in an official statement later that day.
“Upon arrival, the team inspected the premises using a thermal imaging camera and a gas detector, deploying crews to various areas to identify the source of the incident.
“The inspection revealed that the alarms had been triggered by a short circuit in the evaporator motor of an air conditioning unit, which generated smoke and an odor inside the store. The electrical system automatically shut down, preventing the situation from escalating.
“Subsequently, the area was ventilated, and appropriate safety recommendations were issued to ensure the building remained safe.
“No injuries were reported, and evacuation of the establishment was not required. We appreciate the support and coordination provided by Cancún Civil Protection, the Secretariat of Citizen Security, the mall’s private security team, and maintenance staff during this response.”
