Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A group of people from the recent Playa del Carmen land eviction showed up at city hall with their furniture. The group arrived with their belongings Friday demanding to talk with authorities.
They went after being evicted from state-owned land that has been earmarked for industrial use by the municipality. The group of around 50 squatters were evicted by police late Friday morning after attempting to take over that land.
Those who went to the centrally located Municipal Palace (city hall) Friday afternoon claimed they were defrauded and not protected by those they had voted for in the last election. The comments were made after several people from the evicted group said they had made installment payments to the owner of land for the purchase of their lot.

According to the group, a man was selling property lots ranging from 15,000 to 50,000 pesos. The group were evicted Friday during a noon operation. State Police arrived in riot gear to remove the squatter from the land they were occupying in the Nicte-Ha neighborhood at the end of Calle 20 Norte.
SSC Police were at the scene of the afternoon sit-in where the group set up a small camp where they waited for authorities. Without a response from city hall, they eventually left with their furniture.
