Othón P. Blanco, Q.R. — More than 300 sugarcane farmers in the community of Javier Rojo Gómez will be trained in the management and application of organic bioinputs.

The 3 million pesos investment is being promoted through the Secretariat of Agricultural, Rural and Fisheries Development (SEDARPE). The head of SEDARPE, Jorge Aguilar Osorio, says the training is part of the self-production of biofertilizers in the sugarcane zone of Quintana Roo as part of the comprehensive program implemented for the recovery of soil and its components.
“Biofactories improve agricultural productivity, protect the health of producers and offer a sustainable economic alternative for pest control, thus strengthening productive sovereignty,” he said.
He emphasized that this effort represents direct support for one of the main economic activities in southern Quintana Roo. The biofactories will produce 48,000 liters of biofertilizers and 240,000 liters of enriched organic liquid leachate with essential nutrients, benefiting up to 2,400 hectares in the first year.
In addition, more than 300 producers will be trained in the management and application of organic bioinputs.
“Quintana Roo has just over 30,000 hectares dedicated to sugarcane, distributed across 14 ejidos (common lands) along the Hondo River. More than one million tons are produced annually by 3,740 producers.

“Strengthening the sector through biofertilizers contributes not only to agricultural yields but also to the preservation of soils and natural resources,” he explained.
The beneficiary associations, he said, are the Civil Association of Sugarcane Producers of the Ribera del Río Hondo AC and the Local Union of Sugarcane Producers of the San Rafael de Pucté Sugar Mill AC, with supplies, materials, training, and the installation of two biofactories for the production of biofertilizers.

This initiative aims to mitigate the effects of pests and diseases on sugarcane crops resulting from extreme weather conditions that have affected more than 12,000 hectares during 2024 and 2025.
